The world

The Between

There is a layer between the physical world and the emotional one.

Humans don’t notice it. It notices them...

The small emotional fragments people leave behind...a laugh that almost happened, the pause before a confession...drift into this layer.

They condense. They take shape.

And sometimes, when conditions are right, they crystallize into candy.

This is not widely discussed.

The Curator

Deercat

Deercat lives in The Between.

He is small. Polite. Unreasonably certain about things.

He treats candy like artifacts and assembles mixes based on emotional weather patterns.

He does not explain his decisions. He is almost always correct.

Humans eat the candy without knowing any of this.

The Others

Sourling & Co.

Deercat is not alone. You'll slowly meet the others.

The Sourling is Deercat’s frenemy. Oversees all sour candies. Believes anticipation builds character. Frequently audits your decisions. Rarely approves.

Nightbeak oversees bitterness and all licorice. Especially the salty ones. Judges loudly. Secretly proud.

Lingermice control chewiness. There is no process. They trip over each other constantly.

They all agree on one thing: humans are charmingly chaotic.

rules from the between

#3 - Candy rearranges itself overnight. By emotion, not by color.

#51 - Licorice is less a flavor, and more a decision about yourself.

#13 - Sharing changes the flavor. Even when you don’t want it to.

#74 - Some colors mean more than others. We won’t say which.

#27 - If you drop a piece, it forgives you. But only once.
